Corry Baseball falls to Maplewood in a non-region contest

Guys Mills, PA - Corry Beavers Baseball took a trip to Guys Mills to take on the Maplewood Tigers in a PIAA district ten non-region game on Wednesday. It was a beautiful day for baseball, but the Tigers would not let the Beavers enjoy the weather once the opening pitch hit the catchers mit as Maplewood would knock off the Beavers 8-1.
Maplewood got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Paul Hirosky singled down the right field line, Maplewood scored on a passed ball, and Elijah Hochstetler doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
Mitchell Potosky hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the third for the Maplewood. Hochstetler would do the same, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth for the Maplewood.
The Beavers would score their lone run in the top of the fourth inning as Wyatt Swann delivered a base hit that sent Camdyn Moon sliding in to home plate belly first to give Corry a little bit of hope before the Tigers shut them down.
Chase Koelle earned the win for Maplewood. The hurler allowed two hits and one unearned run over six innings. The home pitcher had eight strikeouts and gave up just two walks. Wyatt Swan took the loss for Corry. The pitcher went three innings, giving up four runs on five hits, all of them were earned. Swan recorded eight strikeouts and walked three batters on the night.
Swan went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Kamdyn Moon and Swan each collected one hit for Corry Varsity Beavers. Corry turned one double play in the game. Corry Varsity Beavers didn't commit a single error in the field. Carson Braswell had the most chances in the field with nine.
Maplewood amassed nine hits in the game. Hochstetler provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Maplewood with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Kyle Jordan went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Maplewood in hits. Koelle collected two hits for Maplewood in four at bats and Ty Neely led Maplewood with two walks. Overall, the Tigers had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game.
“We are 3-2, which is still a good start to the year.” Head coach Jake Cirigliano said. “I want to see us more aggressive at the plate, that will kick start our offense and team! Wyatt swan drove in Kamdyn Moon on a line drive into left and that was our scoring for the evening.”
Next up for Corry Varsity Beavers is a game at Union City on Thursday at 4:00 PM. The game was rescheduled from Tuesday’s cold temperatures. The Beavers will then have Friday off before heading to General McLane for a Saturday game at 11:00 AM.
