Edinboro, PA- The Corry varsity football team travelled to Edinboro Friday night to take on the General McLane Lancers in the latest installment of the rivalry in a non-region match. It was a tough night for the Beavers. The high powered and fast tempo Lancer offense proved tough to stop. Corry was unable to keep pace and fell 49-18.
Corry scored twice in the second quarter. The first score came from a fumble recovery by Keaton Frisina who returned it 52 yards for the touchdown. Corry missed the PAT and trailed 28-6. The second score came off of a 13 yard pass from Jack Vanchieri to Blake Cook. The Beavers two point try failed. At the end of the first half Corry trailed 28-12.
Coach Goodwill commented at halftime. "The emphasis all week was that we get out to a fast start. We didn't and they did and McLane came ready to play. Their a great football team and you can't have slow starts against great football teams. Now we are playing from behind but our guys are gutsy so I still like our chances." The Lancers coach McCormick offered remarks as well. "we should have been up more." McCormick said. "It was unacceptable how we handled some of those situations but we are going to coach up our guys and figure it out in the second half and get them going.
General McLane did get it figured out as they put up 14 points in the third quarter and another score in the fourth to make it 49-12. The final Corry score occurred on a 10 yard rush from Vanchieri that got the score to a 49-18 Final.
Vanchieri went nine for 13 passing and threw for 67 yards total. He threw for one touchdown and one interception after replacing Lucas Baker who came out of the game due to an injury with 6:10 to go in the first quarter of play. Baker went eight for 11 and threw for 23 yards.
Vanchieri also led in rushing yards. He ran for 49 yards and a touchdown. Conner Sterling ran for 29 yards on nine attempts. Lamech Albers ran for 11 yards on three attempts.
Blake Cook led in receiving with 37 yards and a touchdown on four receptions. Conner Sterling had 21 yards on three receptions. Keaton Frisina had 16 yards on three receptions. Deion Canady had 12 yards on two receptions.
Corry will look to regroup as they return home to Sheen Field on Friday for Homecoming. The Beavers will face the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers with the opening kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM. We encourage everyone to come celebrate the Homecoming festivities but if you can't make it to the game, it will be broadcasted live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
