CORRY, Pa. – The Corry Beavers hosted the Girard Yellow Jackets on Monday night at the Lou Hanna Athletic complex for their first region four matchup of the year. The Beavers used a powerful offensive performance and strong pitching to defeat Girard 16-1 in 3 innings finishing with 16 runs on 14 hits, while Girard scored one run on three hits.
Corry took control early and never looked back, scoring in multiple innings and taking advantage of timely hitting, key walks and aggressive base running to build a commanding lead. Mahra Goodwill led Corry offensively going two for three on the day with two home runs. A three-run shot in the first inning and added a grand slam in the bottom of the third totaling seven RBI's on the day. Jazlyn Bridgham, Avah Taylor, Rachel Moates, Braylyn Gerdy each recorded multiple hits and scored runs as part of Corry’s balanced offensive attack. Sydney Mineo and Allison Yetzer also reached base multiple times and contributed runs during key scoring innings.
For Girard, Olivia Bax recorded two hits and scored Girard’s lone run. Bri Frawley had a hit while Madison Chaffee and Danielle Suscheck added a walk but Girard could not capitalize on any of those opportunities as the stout Beaver Defense shut any kind of momentum down.
Gerdy earns the win for the Beavers in the circle. She pitched all three innings for Corry, allowing three hits and one run that was earned while striking out three batters and giving up two walks on the day. Corry’s pitching and defense limited Girard’s scoring opportunities and kept runners from advancing in key situations. Girard pitchers faced constant pressure from Corry’s lineup. Catie Bennett took the loss for the Yellow Jackets. In two innings Bennett gave up 16 runs on 14 hits, all of them were earned. She had two strikeouts with four walks and two home runs.
“Bray was solid in the circle tonight. She was in control of the game and worked with confidence.” Head coach Allison Williams said. “Our bats are hot from top to bottom. Shoutout to Mahra Goodwill for hitting her second and third homerun of the season. The third being a grand slam. Tonight’s win was a good momentum builder going into a tough game against Northwestern.”

Corry Lady Beavers Defeat Girard 6-2 in JV Softball Matchup
The Corry Lady Beavers defeated the Girard Yellow Jackets 6-2 Monday in a junior varsity softball game, using timely hitting and strong pitching to secure the win. Corry finished with six runs on seven hits, while Girard scored two runs on six hits in the game.
Corry opened the scoring early and maintained control through the middle innings, highlighted by a three-run fourth inning as Shawntel Dyne, Lucy Hasbrouck, and Maci Kemp all scored. That helped create separation on the scoreboard and Girard was unable to overcome the deficit.
Maci Kemp was stellar yet again in the circle for the Beavers. She pitched a complete game for Corry, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out 15 batters and walking just one. Girard pitcher Piper Snow also threw a complete game, striking out two batters and walking four. Snow allowed seven hits and six runs, three of which were earned.
Offensively, Corry was led by multiple hitters contributing throughout the lineup, and some untimely errors from Girard that helped the lady Beavers capitalize on scoring opportunities. Girard recorded six hits but struggled to string together enough offense to close the gap.
With the wins both Corry varsity and JV teams improves to 2-0 on the season and will head into Tuesday’s tester against a tough Northwestern Wildcat team. Varsity is scheduled for 4:00 PM with JV action to follow should the weather hold out. Both games will be broadcast live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
