CORRY, PA. The Corry Beavers baseball team play host to the Conneaut Eagles on an all-around great day of weather on Monday evening. Behind timely hitting and a steady performance on the mound, the home varsity team pulled away for a 6–1 victory over Cash at the ball park at Columbus on Monday afternoon.
Conneaut struck first scoring a run on a pair of singles. Corry answered early and never relinquished control, scoring twice in the first inning off of hits from Wyatt Swan and a Triple from Tucker Jackson. Jacob Anderson drove in Jackson, and the Beavers lead 2-0 after the first inning.
Corry Scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning on a Swan double, a Kamdyn Moon Single, and a drop third strike. After shutting the Eagles down in the top of the fourth, Corry score two more runs As Kaden Krasa and Hurter Donoghue toe tapped the home dish to make it 6-1 and the final score.
Swan and Jackson paced the offense for Corry, each collecting two hits. Jackson delivered the game’s biggest blow, driving in three runs, while Swan crossed the plate twice to set the tone at the top of the lineup. Moon, Anderson and Donoghue also contributed with hits as Corry finished with seven in total.
Conneaut managed to get on the board in the first inning but the offense struggled to sustain momentum. The visiting team had five total hits out of 24 at bats, and were unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position.
Corry’s pitching staff kept the visitors in check throughout. Bryce Chelton earned the win for the Beavers in five innings worth of work. The starter allowed one earned run on four hits. He gave up one walk and fanned one batter. Swan closed the door in relief, tossing two scoreless innings. He gave up one hit and sat down three batters on the night to secure the victory.
Wilpula took the loss for the Conneaut Eagles. Despite striking out nine batters across four innings, he gave up six runs on seven hits, four of them were earned. Bland pitched two innings. He didn’t give up any hits and struck out three batters.
Defensive miscues and timely hits by Corry proved costly, as Conneaut committed two errors that contributed to the scoring. Corry’s defense backed its pitchers with a clean performance, committing no errors and turning key outs to halt any potential rallies.
Corry head coach Jake Cirigliano summed up the performance in one word.
“There is one way to describe the game tonight — economical,” Cirigliano said. “We were economical with our pitching and defense and also at the plate. I can’t say enough about the way the boys came to play today. CASH has been having a really solid season and we matched that level today. We had really good at-bats up and down our lineup and made plays on defense. Bryce Chelton and Wyatt Swan pitched a great game. Very good team win tonight.”
With the win Corry moves to an overall record of 6-7 and moves to 2-3 in region five. They are back at home on Wednesday night as they will host the Girard Yellow Jackets. Girard had a 4-0 shutout victory over the Beavers back on April 13th. Corry will look to rectify that as they try to get back to the .500 mark on the year. Opening Pitch is scheduled for 4:30 PM and the game will be streamed live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
