Corry JV dropped their first match of the year to the Fairview Tigers on Tuesday night 23-25, 25-17, and 12-15.

The first set got off to a rough start with Corry losing a starting outside hitter in warm-ups to a sprained ankle.  This precipitated a lineup change and a lot of scrambling to replace the injured player.  Ultimately though, it was the inability to focus, highlighted by seven Corry hitting errors that gave Fairview the edge in set one.

Set two was the opposite of set one.  Fairview committed 11 errors and Corry looked fairly composed and ready to carry the momentum of a set two win into the third and deciding set.

In set three, Corry struggled to pass the ball and to keep the ball in play on offense.  In addition to six unforced Corry errors and three Fairview aces, Fairview was able to score six kills compared to just one kill for the Beavers.

"We need to pass the ball better and control the ball with more consistency when we are hitting and serving." JV coach Mark Brenner said. "We also need to play with more confident energy regardless of what pressures and challenges come our way."

Notable play for Corry included big hits by Lauren Brundage who collected 11 kills on the night, Libero Mikayla Comitz leading the team vocally and in serve-receive passing, and Libero Jordyn Watrous serving with 18 attempts and a 100% serving percentage.

Corry serving leaders were Watrous (13 service points, 4 aces), OH Naomi Brown (6 service points, 2 aces), and MH Liv Swan (5 service points).  Corry hitters were led by Brundage (11 kills), and Brown (4 kills).   Defensively, Watrous led with 10 digs, Comitz with 8 digs, and Brown had 4 digs.  Maci Kemp also had 17 assists.

Corry will head out on the road Thursday as they will take on the Lakers of Mercyhurst Prep. JV set for a 6:00 PM start time with varsity action to follow. The game will be Streamed live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
