Corry JV loses to Saegertown in the Maplewood JV tournament quarterfinal

On a very busy Homecoming week, the Corry JV Volleyball team traveled to Maplewood for their third tournament of the season. There were 12 teams divided into 3 pools. (Each pool had 4 teams that played each other for two sets to 25. Corry was in a pool with CASH, Franklin, and Cambridge Springs. Pool play results were used to seed the tournament bracket, with all teams earning a spot in the playoff bracket.

After easily taking care of business in the pool play round, Corry found themselves in a close match with Saegertown where a combination of 12 Corry errors and energetic play by Saegertown led to a close loss. Corry had five hitting errors, five serve-receive errors, and two serving errors, and it was still either team's set to win until the final point.  When you have that many errors, you know that our team is not finding that balance of playing focused, loose, and free.

"The competition in Corry's pool was not very good." JV coach Mark Brenner explained.  "Though Corry played pretty well against pool play teams that were not very strong, beating them by a combined tournament high 88 points, it is always better to play the better competition. There were also some good things happening on the team and individual level that were not reflected in the early playoff loss. We blocked more balls than any tournament that I can think of, serving was strong, and generally we made relatively few errors until the playoff set.  Unfortunately, our performance did not peak at the right time, but we are learning, getting better, and having fun."

Corry with have their next regular season match at home on Tuesday as they host the Fairview Tigers. JV opening serve is at 6:00 PM with varsity action to follow. The match will be streamed live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
