Corry JV defeated a tough Clarion opponent on the road to win their second match of the season. Clarion served very hard and Corry struggled to pass the ball for most of the match, but once again, Corry serving and hitting proved too much to handle.

The first set got off to a rocky start as Corry fell behind early 5-11.  Corry mounted a late come back behind a 6 point serving run from Libero Mikayla Comitz, but ultimately fell short, losing the set 20-25.

In the second and third set, Corry passing woes continued, but the offense was able to score anyway. Corry outside hitters were able to get good swings at balls that were set behind the 10 foot line, which is not something the average JV team can do well. Meanwhile the Beaver servers were able to keep Clarion out of system, and the defense played well enough to secure the win.

Notable play included skilled hitting by outside hitters, Lauren Brundage and Ava West, who were scoring from behind the 10 ft line. Also, credit could be given to our setters for the running they did to track down the passes, and provide our hitters with something to hit.

Corry serving leaders were defensive specialist Jordyn Watrous (11 service points, four aces), Comitz (10 service points, two aces), setter Naomi Brown (eight service points, three aces) and setter Maci Kemp (eight service points, three aces).  Hitting leaders were Lauren Brundage (eight kills), West (five kills), and right side hitter Katrena Downey (four kills).  Defensively, Jordan Watrous led with 10 digs, followed by West (nine digs), Comitz (eight digs), and Brown (seven digs). Brown had 12 assists and Kemp had 10.

Corry JV Volleyball improves to 2-0 on the year. The JV team host the Cochranton Cardinals on Thursday September 4th in the Beaver Dam with the opening serve scheduled for 6:00 PM. The varsity team will be competing in the annual Fort LeBoeuf tournament on Saturday an the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream will have coverage from the main gym all day long. www.deejexperience.com
