Corry JV volleyball gets back on track with a sweep over Mercyhurst

Erie, pa- The Corry JV volleyball team started out slow on Thursday night on the road, but warmed up to beat Mercyhurst Prep in two straight sets 25-20 and 25-7.
In the first set, Corry struggled to control the ball early, committing 12 errors against what should have been a relatively easy team. The errors kept the score close until the end of the set, when Corry pulled away.
In the second set, Corry was able to keep the momentum from the end of the previous set. They played more focused and dominated every aspect of the game.
"It is remarkable to see the difference in play when a team is disciplined and focused vs when they are not. Disciplined mental, emotional, and physical play is critical to successful volleyball." JV coach Mark Brenner Said.
Setter Maci Kemp and right side Katie Downey both had three kills on four attempts. Liberos Mikayla Comitz and Jordyn Watrous passed the ball well in serve-recieve. setter/outside hitter Naomi Brown Lead all servers with 14 service points including six aces on the night. Defensive specialist Delaney Church was next with (5 service points, 2 aces), middle hitter Liv Swan (5 service points, 2 aces), and Jordyn Watrous (5 service points, 1 ace). Corry hitters were led by OH Lauren Brundage (6 kills), and Brown, Downey, and Kemp (4 kills apiece). Defensively, Brown and Kemp had five and four and digs respectively. Kemp also had 13 assists.
The JV team improves to 9-1 on the year and will play Tuesday at home vs Girard. It is "Pack for Paws night! Wear black and bring a pet food item or treat and get in free for the annual volleyball charity night benefiting Avery's Pawsitive Change.
