The Corry JV Volleyball team travelled to Maplewood for their third tournament of the 2024 season and won in convincing fashion.  Corry finished 1st in Pool B, before knocking off the number two seed from pool C, Titusville in the quarterfinal, the number one seed from Pool A, Maplewood, in the semifinal, and the number one seed from Pool C, Fort LeBoeuf, in the final.

The toughest match was possibly against Maplewood in the semifinal.  It was their home turf.  They had a lot of fans in the stands cheering them on.  They played very solid fundamental volleyball and it was close for the first part of the set.   Then Corry established a lead by tough serving, passing, and hitting and finished off the set.

The final against FLB started off with Corry playing sharp in all phases against a rattled FLB.  FLB called a timeout when the Corry lead was 8-1, but it did not change the momentum.  Corry continued to pour it on as the lead widened to 11 by the end of the set.

Success came by very consistent play all day.  Usually the first set of the day is ugly, as it is hard for players to wake up and focus on volleyball first thing in the morning, but that was not the case today.  Everyone was focused and for the most part, remained that way throughout the day.  Every Corry player had a job to do and the emphasis was on coordinated team play sustained throughout the tournament, not individual highlights.

Corry servers kept the other teams off balance right from the start.  Our passing was adequate to be able to run a quality offense.  Our hitters dominated every match.  Our defense improved throughout the day, and our setting was the best at the tournament.

This was a whole team win, with every player making the necessary contribution to keep us winning.  Winning is a good thing.  Having a disciplined winning attitude is a great thing and we accomplished that as well.  As always, we aim to learn, get better, and have fun!

The next match for the JV volleyball squad will be Tuesday on the road at Fairview as the Beavers take on the Tigers. Opening serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM with varsity action to follow.
