Mahra Goodwill lifts her fifth homerun of the year over the left field fence in Corry's win over the North East Grape Pickers on Thursday.

North East, PA - The Corry Lady Beavers Softball team delivered an emphatic offensive performance, rolling past  the North East Grape Pickers 19-1, in a region softball matchup shortened by the mercy rule on a warm but rainy Thursday evening.

Corry erupted for 19 runs on 19 hits, scoring in bunches early and never letting North East settle in. According to the official scorecard, the Beavers plated seven runs in the first inning and added five more in the second to seize immediate control of the game .

Sydney Mineo and Ayvah Taylor helped set the tone at the top of the lineup, while Mahra Goodwill delivered one of the game’s biggest swings with her fifth home run of the year — as part of a three-hit, three-RBI performance. Taylor also contributed a multi-hit effort with a team-high five RBIs, powering the middle of the order.

Corry’s lineup showed depth throughout, with multiple players recording multi-hit games, including, Mineo, Jazlyn Bridgham, Rachel Moats, Alison Yetzer, Goodwill, and Taylor. The Beavers finished with 16 RBIs and took advantage of North East pitching struggles, which included multiple walks and a hit batter. The home team also committed multiple defensive miscues, which contributed to Corry’s offensive surge. North East pitchers combined to allow 19 runs,16 of them earned on 19 hits over four innings.

North East managed its lone run in the second inning but struggled to generate consistent offense against Corry Pitcher Braylyn Gerdy. Wilkinson drove in the team’s only run, while Miller and Holdsworth each recorded hits.

In the circle, Braylyn Gerdy earned the win for Corry, allowing just one run on three hits over four innings. She struck out three and did not issue a walk, keeping North East off balance throughout.

Wittman took the loss for the Grape Pickers. In one inning worth of work, she gave up seven runs on six hits, five of them were earned. She had two strikeouts and one walk on the day. Holdsworth came in relief and gave up 12 runs on 13 hits, 11 of them were earned including a homerun. She had one strikeout and two walks in three innings.

Despite warm and rainy conditions at North East, Corry’s offense showed no signs of slowing, capitalizing on nearly every opportunity. "Tonight the girls came ready to play.” Head coach Allison Williams said. “It was a good bounce back game after a loss on Monday. Our bats were hot and our defensive was solid. We got our momentum back and are ready to keep rolling.”

With the win the Beavers improve to 4-2 on the year and are 2-1 in region four play. The Beavers will head out on the road bright and early on Saturday morning as they head to Franklin to take on the lady Knights. The Opening Pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM and it will be broadcast live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
