Corry Volleyball headed to the Hagerty Family Events Center on Thursday night as they started their quest for yet another District 10 title. The first stop on their journey was the Hickory Hornets. Corry would take down Hickory while extending their match play sweeps
to eleven straight competitions with a 3-0 win 25-17, 25-17, and 25-20.
While it wasn’t always as crisp as fans are used to, Corry led almost the entire match, only trailing briefly in set two (4-5). Corry was led offensively by juniors Grace Allen and Regan Kemp. Corry’s defense was flying all over the floor with eight different players registering four digs or more, three different players (Brynley Watrous, Sydney Mineo, and Ali Yetzer) taking the libero duties.
Offensively, all four setters saw time with Haley Mumau notching 25 assists, Ava Hallberg with 6, and sophomore Naomi Brown picking up one. Rylee Nickerson, Kendall Donoghue, and Alivia Swan played well in the middle. Freshmen Ava West had 2 blocks and 2 kills on the right side.
“We didn’t pass or serve particularly well, some of that might be nerves of the first playoff match of the season; it is definitely an area we have to improve. At the end of the day, we met our goal…win and advance. We will be better on Tuesday” said Coach Goodsel.
Even with their struggles the Beavers picked up their 14th sweep of the season (11th Straight). Corry improves their over all record to 15-0 and will play the Fairview Tigers on Tuesday October 28th, with the time and place to be announced. It will be a rematch from back on September 30th where the Beavers swept the Tigers 25-22, 25-18, and 25-14.
