Fairview defeats Corry baseball behind steady offensive production

Fairview, PA - Corry Beavers Baseball traveled to Fairview to play the Tigers in a region five matchup on Wednesday. In a mad dash to get the game in before rain the game time was moved up almost an hour. The Tigers offense kept adding on runs with steady offense in a 7-1 victory over the visiting Beavers.
Fairview opened the scoring in the first when Andrew Stevens scored after tagging up. They extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Luke Rzodkiewicz and Robert Benford.
Hunter Donoghue, the Beavers number eight hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats. Tucker Jackson, Kamdyn Moon, and Jeremiah Johnson each recorded a hit for the Beavers with Johnson being the lone run scored. The Beavers defense turned one double play defensively in the game.
Brayden Hennessy and Benford each collected two hits for Fairview. Hennessy, Benford, Rzodkiewicz, Blake Hawley, Stevens, and Kadyn Szelewski each drove in one run for Fairview. Hennessy and Benford each stole multiple bases for Fairview, 10 total on the day. Fairview had a strong eye at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. The Tigers also turned one double play in the game, and the home team didn't commit a single error in the field.
Rzodkiewicz earned the win for Fairview on the bump. The hurler gave up three hits and one run over four and one-third innings, striking out six and walking two. Bryce Chelton took the loss for Corry Varsity Beavers. The pitcher went four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out none and walking three.
“Fairview is top of the region for a reason.” Head coach Jake Cirigliano said. “I thought we fought hard today. Bryce pitched well, and Jeremiah got himself out of a jam. Our hitting needs to come around; we are only a couple hits away from winning some of these baseball games. Hunter Donoghue came through going 2-3 with an rbi single. We are 3-5 back at it Friday against Warren.
The loss puts Corry at 3-5 on the year and they sit at 0-2 in region five play. The Beavers will be back on the road Friday. Corry heads to Warren to battle the Dragons in a non-region contest.
