The Corry JV Volleyball team traveled to FLB for their first tournament of the 2024 volleyball season and went undefeated throughout the tournament, earning the title of tournament champions. They were undefeated in pool play, earning a #1 seed in the gold round of playoffs. In the quarterfinals, they beat North East, 2-0. In the semifinals, they beat the #1 seed from Pool C, Harbor Creek, 2-0, and in the finals, Corry beat FLB, the number 1 seed from Pool A, 2-0.

The day started off a little slow against a scrappy Union City team, and there were untimely Corry hitting errors that led to a closer score in the first set. From that point on, Corry played incrementally better throughout pool play. Each opponent exposed new things to work on, but Corry dominated in every phase of play, and it was reflected in the scores.

The Quarterfinals of the Gold Bracket had Corry playing North East. This was one of the easiest matches in the tournament. NE was overwhelmed from the opening points of the first set by tough Corry serving and never got any momentum in their favor.

The Semifinals vs. Harbor Creek were much more competitive. Harbor Creek had good serving, hitting, and defense, but they did not have enough to stop a balanced Corry attack.

In the Gold Finals against FLB, Corry peaked in energy, focus, and in executing volleyball skills. Corry got off to quick starts in both sets, forcing FLB timeouts, and never let up through the end of the match. Sometimes it was a great serve, other times it was a power hit for a kill, still other times it was solid defensive play and passing that kept the momentum in Corry’s direction.

In all, it was a great experience for this team to get better, learn, and have fun. While not perfect, overall, the energy, attitudes, and focus were very good. Other teams commented throughout the day that Corry players were playing with confidence and focus. The coaching staff is proud of the effort put out by this team, their ability to take constructive criticism and coaching, and their ability to adapt to many different lineups throughout the day. It was a whole team win. While many individual contributions were made, our success was not the result of one star player. Success came by everyone embracing their role and doing their jobs accordingly.

Corry JV volleyballs next action will be Tuesday night as they open up the night against Iroquois Braves. They also have a game on Wednesday against Cathedral Prep. Both games are at home in the Beaver Dam with an opening serve scheduled for 6:00 PM. If you can't make it to the game, watch it live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream at www.deejexperience.com !
