WATERFORD

After a 2-0 start to the season, the Corry Beavers varsity football team traveled to Waterford for their third straight road contest to take on the Fort Leboeuf Bison who were celebrating their senior night on a cool September evening under the Friday night lights at Carm Bonito Field

A shaky start put the Beavers in an 18 point hole at the half. A cleaner second half got them back to a one score game, but their comeback efforts came up just short and the Beavers fell 29-31. They are now 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in Region Five.

The Bison drew first blood early in the first quarter off of a huge kickoff return that set them up for a one yard rushing touchdown (0-7). The Beavers responded quickly with a 75 yard touchdown pass to Blake Cook (7-7). Fort Leboeuf answered back with a 23 yard passing touchdown (7-14) and then capped the first quarter off with a 47 yard field goal from kicker Lucas Kantz. The quarter concluded with the Beavers down 7-17.

Corry scored first in the second quarter with a 33 yard touchdown pass to Blake Cook. The PAT was unsuccessful (13-17). The Bison continued to answer back with a 44 yard passing touchdown (13-23) and then pulled ahead further with a 23 yard passing touchdown. The first half ended with the Beavers down 13-31.

Corry tallied the only score in the third quarter with a ten yard pass to Keaton Frisina. The two point attempt was successful which cut the Beavers deficit down to ten headed into the fourth 21-31.

A missed Bison field goal attempt and a 15 yard touchdown pass to Jack Vanchieri with a successful two point attempt put the Beavers within two (29-31). A successful onside kick recovery gave the Beavers one final chance to complete the comeback, but the drive and the comeback came up just short. Corry fell 31-29 for their first loss of the season.

Quarterback Lucas Baker went 14 of 30 in pass attempts for 285 Yards. He threw for four touchdowns and two interceptions.

Lamech Albers rushed for 59 yards on 11 carries. Marcus Meredith rushed for 37 yards on six carries. Deion Canady rushed for 16 yards on five carries.

Blake Cook had 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns on two receptions. Jack Vanchieri had 51 receiving yards and a touchdown on two receptions. Tucker Jackson had 50 receiving yards on three receptions. Keaton Frisina had 26 receiving yards and a touchdown on two receptions.

The Beavers are back in action next Friday for their home opener against the Girard Yellow Jackets who are 3-0 coming off of a win over Fairview 32-26. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The DeeJ Experience Sports Stream will have the coverage of the game with the pre game going live at 6:30 PM at www.deejexperience.com
