Erie, PA – May 5, 2025 — The Beavers fell to the Fairview Varsity Tigers, 7-3, on Monday evening in a hard-fought road matchup. Originally scheduled as Fairview’s Senior Night at their home field, the game was relocated to Mercyhurst University due to impending inclement weather—a recurring disruption for spring sports this season.

Both teams came out strong, but it was the Beavers who struck first in the top of the third inning. A pair of doubles sparked a rally, with shortstop Kamdyn Moon driving in the first run. Jacob Gantz followed with a single, and Wyatt Swan capped the scoring with a two-RBI hit, putting Corry ahead 3-0.

Fairview responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth, keeping the game close. The turning point came in the bottom of the sixth, when the Tigers broke the game open with a five-run inning. Timely hits from Liam Hermann and Andrew Stevens, a bases-loaded walk to Tyler Benford, a critical Beavers error, and an RBI single from Vinny Campoli sealed the rally and the lead.

Beavers starting pitcher Lewis Hellyer delivered a solid outing, allowing two earned runs on two hits over four innings while striking out four. Reliever Wyatt Swan gave up five runs (three earned) across two innings of relief.

Fairview’s offense was paced by Caleb Szklenski with two RBIs, while Hermann and Stevens both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Campoli, Szklenski, and Benford each added doubles to keep the pressure on.

For the Beavers, Swan, Moon, Gantz, and Zack Coulter each recorded a hit. Swan led the team with two RBIs from the 3-hole spot in the lineup.

“We played very well until the sixth inning, where things unraveled for us defensively. We had Fairview on the ropes but just couldn’t finish,” said Beavers Head Coach Jake Cirigliano.

With the loss, Corry drops to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in region play. The Beavers will look to rebound on Wednesday when they travel to face the Northwestern Wildcats. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM, and fans can catch the action live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream at www.deejexperience.com.
