CORRY BOYS BASKETBALL OVER CAMBRIGE SPRINGS 76-48

Tyler Bailey-

The Corry Boys Basketball Team traveled to Cambridge Springs and came home with a 76-48 victory. The team got into foul trouble early with multiple guys getting two fouls a piece, which made us get into some different rotations early. The beavers played 12 guys in total.

During the first half Corry had a 20 point lead, but was out of sink defensively allowing Cambridge to get some easy buckets that we shouldn’t have given up. The defense woke up during the third where we really stretched the lead.

Kamdyn Moon led the way with 17 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Moon had 5 threes on the night. He continues to be the quarterback of the team and does whatever he needs to do to make our team successful.

Keaton Frisina got into foul trouble early, but made the most of his time on the court. He ended the night with 16 points. 6 rebounds, and 6 steals. He is the bread and butter of the team. We are better when he is on the court, and we need to find a way to keep him on the floor down the stretch.

Parker Trask had himself a nice night offensively with 15 points and 6 rebounds. He was a consistent scorer in the middle for us, and we need him to keep that up. Nick Scouten had 9 points with three 3-point field goals. Continuing to work hard on defense with 2 steals. Landon Deane had 6 points & 7 rebounds, Kent with 4, Atha with 4 points and 3 rebounds, Canady with 3, and Baker with 2 & 3 rebounds. Canady may have had his first varsity points.

Every night we have had 3 or more double digit scorers, which is key for team success. We hope to continue to see this kind of stat sheet. Tonight we had 12 turnovers which is the least amount we have had thus far, while making Cambridge turn the ball over 25+ times.

Landon Atha played his first game of the season, while Jack Vanchieri was out due to illness. We were 10-16 from the foul line, and we need to improve in that category as a team. Derek Yatsko also saw his first varsity action. Friday night we play at home against Clymer.

CORRY GIRLS BASKETBALL VICTORIOUS OVER EISENHOWER

Ryan Mumau-

Corry hosted Eisenhower for the Lady Beavers first home game of the season.  Corry wasted no time getting their offense rolling.  All five starters scored in the first quarter to go up 19-10.  The second quarter saw the Beavers increase their lead to 12 to head into halftime up 32-20.  In the third quarter, Eisenhower was able to cut the lead to 8 before Money Molly Irwin hit a deep three at the buzzer to increase the Beaver's lead to eleven.  With the start of the fourth quarter and a score of 43-32, Eisenhower's, Clara Steinberg heated up to get the Knights within 2 with 15 seconds left.  Corry, however, was able to hang onto the lead and earn the win with a final score of 56-50.

This is a nice win for us. Eisenhower is a very talented team of seniors. They shoot the ball extremely well and never quit. They kept shooting themselves right back in the game. I'm proud of how we responded. Both teams had some runs throughout the game. We responded at critical times and that earned us the win.

The Lady Beavers had three girls in double digits with Haley Mumau having a team high 17 pts, Regan Kemp with 13 pts-2 assists, and Grace Allen with 12 pts-4 assists. Rylee Nickerson finished with 6 pts-4 assists while Irwin had 5 pts and Ava West had 3 pts-4 assists.

Nickerson had a team high 9 rebounds and 5 steals followed by Kemp with 8 rebounds-2 steals, Mumau with 6 rebounds, Allen with 4 rebounds-2 steals, Irwin with 3 rebounds-2 steals, and West with 1 rebound.

With the win, the Lady Beavers move to 2-2 on the season.

Corry 9th Grade Basketball Battles Tough Loss to Titusville in double OT

Gregory Luther-

The Corry 9th grade boys came out firing on all cylinders Tuesday night in their home matchup against the Titusville Rockets. The Beavers opened the game with a red-hot shooting display, as Asher Pillar and Hunter Donoghue combined to go a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc in the first quarter, helping Corry jump out to a 15–7 lead.

Corry’s strong defensive effort continued into the second quarter, holding Titusville in check and extending the advantage to 26–16 heading into halftime.

The momentum shifted in the second half, as Corry’s offense cooled and Titusville’s size began to take a toll on the boards. Despite some struggles, the Beavers held on to a 32–25 lead after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, Titusville made their push, overtaking Corry for the first time and eventually tying the game to force overtime. With only a seven-man roster, foul trouble became a major challenge for the Beavers as the game stretched into a second overtime period. Despite a gritty, physical effort, Corry ultimately fell by a score of 53–47.

Scoring Leaders:

  • Asher Pillar – 14

  • Hunter Donoghue – 12

  • David Beckman – 7

  • Bentley Luther – 6

  • Lucas Higby – 6

  • Lennon Hill – 2

The Beavers now sit at 2–2 on the season and will look to bounce back at home on Friday, December 12th against Iroquois. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM.
