Corry, PA - Corry softball hosted the Cathedral Prep Ramblers in a region four game on Thursday night. It was a cool but special night at the Lou Hanna Athletic Complex as the Beavers celebrated three very special players on senior night, and they wasted little time getting to the celebration with a 17-2 three inning win over the Ramblers.
After a beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner by Sophomore left fielder Jazlyn Bridgham, It was time to get to work and it was great defense from the Beavers that got Corry out of the inning quickly by picking a couple Ramblers off on steal attempts. The home team wasted little time getting the bats fired up. Corry piled up five runs in the opening frame off four hits a walk, an error and one hit batter taking the lead 5-0.
The second inning saw prep start to gain a little bit of momentum as three singles and a pair of walks would score two runs. That’s when Bridgham would make a great throw to Senior catcher Rachel Moats at home plate who took the one hop and made the tag at the plate to keep the third run off the board.
Corry’s offense would take over again in the bottom of the second, this time piling up a whopping nine runs including the ninth homerun of the season for senior centerfielder Mahra Goodwill. “The girls came out ready to go,” Corry head coach Allison Williams said. “Our bats were hot tonight. We were making solid contact all around.”
The Beavers quickly shut down the visitors in the third with solid defensive play. Corry then connected on three straight hits including the walk off single from Moats to end the game in a 17-2 mercy rule win in three innings.
The Celebration for the three Seniors began as family, friends, and fans enjoyed the festivities honoring Marah Goodwill, Sydney Mineo, and Rachel Moats. “We celebrated our three seniors tonight. We would like to congratulate them and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”

It was the Seniors who led the charge for the Beavers. Goodwill led the relentless offensive attack going 3-3 at the plate with four RBIs and three runs scored including her ninth homerun of the year. Moats also went 3-3 with four RBIs and scored two runs. Mineo also tapped home plate giving all three seniors at least one run scored on a memorable senior night.
Bridgham was 2-3 at the plate. A triple and a double with an RBI and two runs scored. Allison Yetzer, Regan Kemp, Ayvah Taylor, and Molly Irwin each collected a hit as Corry piled up 12 total on the day. Corry capitalized on aggressive baserunning, walks and several Cathedral Prep miscues to keep pressure on the Ramblers throughout the afternoon.
Cathedral Prep managed five hits, led by Addison Baldi and Avery Pfister who both went 2-2 at the plate for the Ramblers. Morgan Oler was 1-1 with an RBI and scored one run.
Braylyn Gerdy earned the win in the circle for Corry. In three innings worth of work the hurler allowed two runs on five hits, both earned. She struck out one batter and allowed just two walks. Emma Raucci takes the loss for Cathedral Prep. In two innings she gave up 17 runs on 12 hits, 10 of them were earned including a homerun. She had two strikeouts and gave up two walks.

With the win, Corry improved their regular season record to 11-3 on the year and are 8-2 in the region. It’s crunch time as the Beavers look to keep the momentum rolling with just a handful of games remaining in the regular season. They head to Conneaut tonight to take on the Eagles in another region four match up and look to keep their momentum rolling towards the post season. Varsity opening pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM with JV action to follow. Both games will be broadcast live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
