Girard, PA - The Corry Beavers baseball team traveled to Girard to take on the Yellow Jackets in their first region five action of the year. The weather was perfect for baseball action but unfortunately for the Beavers, they could not get any runs in as they fell in defeat 4-0 on Monday.
Girard jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Cello Giannelli-Brown singled, scoring two runs, and Victor Gould grounded out, scoring one run. Tucker Jackson, Jacob Anderson, Hunter Donoghue, Jackson Lathrop, and Carson Braswell each collected one hit for Corry, but could not string anything together to get on the board.
Giannelli-Brown went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Ferretti went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Girard in hits. Girard turned one double play in the game. Girard were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Liam Dunfee had the most chances in the field with 11.
Joe Ferretti earned the win for Girard. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits in the shutout over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking three. Wyatt Swan took the loss for the Beavers. The pitcher went six innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out nine and walking one.
"Yes we lost, but there were some very positive things we could take from tonight." Head Coach Jake Cirigliano said. "We struggled hitting the ball, but we did make some plays defensively. We had a web gem from Kamdyn moon. I believe we are playing some good baseball right now, we just need to get those timely hits. Wyatt Swan pitched so well tonight, I wish our bats would have helped him out some!"
The loss puts Corry under .500 for the first time this year. They currently sit at 3-4 and are
0-1 in the region. They will have another tough test coming their way as they will travel to Fairview on Wednesday to take on the Tigers in another important region matchup. The opening pitch is scheduled for 4:00pm and is scheduled to be broadcasted on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
