Head Coach Corry Boys Basketball
The Corry Boys Basketball Team traveled to Cochranton to take on the Cardinals on Saturday night. It was another make up date from a postponed game from earlier in the week. Corry found a way to come out on top with a 61-52 victory.
Tonight we came out with little energy which led to a slow start. At halftime we were down by one, but came out in the third hot scoring 25 points. We had a hard time with pressure, which we need to get into the gym and just work on our press break. We have several capable guys we just need to make confident decisions and dribble with confidence.
To start the third quarter we went with a small lineup and put Landon Atha in to help in that area. I had to get out of our normal rotation and do what was best for the team and get a win. We missed several layups and put backs that we cannot have. Some of the issue was the physicality of the game, and sometimes we go up and make unnecessary adjustments in the air with the ball rather than just go up the normal way and convert. As a whole we need to be more physical and enjoy playing that way. We will have a lot more physical games like tonight.
Kamdyn Moon led the way for us offensively with 22 points and had a team high seven steals. He hit some timely shots and kept us in the game when we were struggling. Landon Deane had 17 points, with the majority of those points coming in the 25 point third quarter. He also led the team in rebounds with seven. Karson Chamberlin had nine points and four assists. He is our most experienced ball handler and we need to lean on him a little more in games like this to bring the ball down the floor. Landon Atha had five points, Ricketts had four points, and Keaton Frisina had two points.
A lot of the guys came into this game taking the Cardinals too lightly and we had a wake-up call. We are not that great as a unit right now, and we all have to get back in the gym and work on our game. We are happy we had an eye opening night that ended in a victory for the Beavers.
Corry opens up the year 2-0 on the season and will host the Cambridge Springs Blue Devils on Tuesday. JV set for a 6:00 PM start time with Varsity action to follow. The game can be watched live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream at www.deejexperience.com.
