The Corry Boys Basketball Team was able to get on the court for the first time since Monday after a long break due to the inclement weather Erie County faced the last couple of days against the Union City Bears. Corry would pick up the win 77-50

The Beavers came out with a lot of energy behind the defensive effort of Chamberlin, Frisina, and Turben in the first quarter. Corry outscored the Bears 22-6 behind the scoring of Landon Deane and Kamdyn Moon who had 13 of the 22 points.

Corry had 25 steals due to the full court pressure they put on the bears all night long. "Even though we forced several turnovers, I thought we were poor in our full court pressure at times, specifically in the 3rd quarter. We didn't keep the offense in front of us, which allowed the bears to score 21 of their 50 points in the third quarter. We overplayed, didn't have great doubling action, and we were allowing them to dribble past," Coach Bailey Stated.

Offensively, the Beavers were able to score consistently in transition throughout the game. Landon Deane was the beneficiary in our transition offense scoring a career high 33 points. His 33 points puts him at the top of the record books during Coach Bailey's tenure as the head coach. He is tied with Branden Elchynski and Markus Lambert for the most points scored in a game. With the records that Coach Bailey has collected, Brandon Mitchell still has all the scoring records, including points in a game with 42. "Landon is a very quiet scorer, throughout the summer he was scoring at will in most games and you never realize how many points he had. I hope he can shoot efficiently like that throughout  the season, in which he was 66% on the night," Coach Bailey stated. As a team the beavers dished out 20 assists with Chamberlin leading the way in that category with seven, Moon with three, and Deane with three.

Offensively the beavers have some work to do, and didn't look great at times. The Beavers had 18 turnovers themselves. "I thought we struggled breaking the 2/2/1 press and some of the guys were hesitant in the half court. We took some uncharacteristic shots, in which we should have gone strong to the basket but we decided to take low percentage shots," Bailey Stated.

Corry was 13 for 21 at the foul line equalling 61%, which needs to be improved.

Filling up the stat sheet on both sides of the ball was Karson Chamberlin. Chamberlin finished the night with 10 points, seven assists, seven steals, and six rebounds. He led the way in the assists, steals, and rebound categories for the beavers. "Karson is fun to watch, has a really good basketball IQ, and is a gritty player. Every coach wants a player like him because he is great on both sides of the ball," Bailey Stated.

Kamdyn Moon had 12 points for the Beavers against the Bears, in what some may say is a quiet night for him. He did struggle a bit from the three point line, but this year he has found other ways to score. This will make him harder to defend as he will be keyed on much more than he was a year ago.

This year the Beavers have multiple players who can score, which will make it harder on other teams to focus on just one guy. Once the beavers get into the heart of the season Coach Bailey predicts that everyone will see a much more balanced scoring attack across the board. He believes that there are several guys on the team that can put the ball through the hoop.

The Beavers Open up 1-0 on the season and head to Cochranton on Friday Night to Take on the Cardinals.
