Corry falls to the Rockets at Jack Critchfield Park

Slipper Rock, PA – The Corry Beavers baseball team traveled to Slippery Rock University to take on the Rockets in a non-region, varsity game on Friday. The Rockets were celebrating senior night and took time to honor Corry's three seniors (Kamdyn Moon, Tucker Jackson, and Wyatt Swan) before introducing their own seniors. Despite Corry getting on the board first, Slippery Rock scored early and added insurance late to defeat Corry Varsity Beavers, 6-2 at Jack Critchfield Park.
Slippery Rock plated three runs in the first inning and finishing with four hits but capitalizing on walks and timely situational hitting. Corry managed just one hit in the loss, But it was a big one as Kamdyn Moon put a ball deep in the right corner for an in the park home run. Moon reached base three times and scored twice for the Beavers on the day.
Slippery Rock was led by Jacob Kunsman, who had two hits and drove in two runs including a giant homer over the 315 feet plus left field wall. and Casey Darr, who added a hit and two RBIs.
On the mound, Wyatt Swan would take the loss for Corry. Swan gave up six runs on four hits, all of them were earned including one homerun. The starting hurler had five strikeouts and walked five. Jeremiah Johnson delivered a strong relief performance for Corry, tossing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Owen Long earned the win, allowing one hit and earned one run over two innings while striking out three. Slippery rock had nine strikeouts and three walks total admits four pitchers including Darr, Doug Popovec, who each pitched two innings and Jackson Novack who came in to close things out for the Rockets.
Despite the loss, Corry coach Jake Cirigliano praised his team’s effort. “Slippery Rock was good all the way around,” Cirigliano said. “All in all we held them to four hits, we just didn’t hit well. Kam scored both runs, one on an inside the park home run. Sure we struggled, but I’m still proud of the effort we had tonight. Jeremiah pitched very well tonight.”
Corry returns to action Monday as they host the Conneaut Eagles with the varsity opening pitch scheduled for 4:30 PM. The Game will be streamed by DeeJ Experience Productions. www.deejexperience.com
