Corry Girls Basketball Head Coach

Corry girls Basketball hosted the North East Grape Pickers for the Lady Beavers first home game of the season. It was a tightly contested matchup that was pretty physical as well. The Beavers would pick up the win 36-31.

Both teams got to double digits with Corry leading 14-12 after one. In the second quarter, Corry continued to battle but surrendered their lead after a buzzer beating shot from Miah Skelly put the Pickers up by one 21-20. "I liked our position at halftime. We talked about some adjustments to make in the 2nd half as well as what was working offensively." Coach Mumau said.

In the third, Corry regained the lead thanks in part to the senior to senior connection of Halle Albers and Sadye Dyne. Dyne was able to score eight of Corry's 12 third quarter points from Albers' pinpoint post feeds. With Corry leading by five after 3, the Beavers held on to the lead for the rest of the game to get the 36-31 victory.

Our bigs played great tonight. Dyne had a game high 13 points to go along with nine rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and an assist while Rylee Nickerson scored eight points, grabbed 15 rebounds, had six steals, and one block.

Sadye Dyne takes a pass from Albers and adds a bucket to her game high 13 points on the night. Dyne was named the Crotty Chevrolet Player of the Game for her performance.

Haley Mumau finished the game with six points, nine rebounds, three steals, and an assist. Kaygen Rogers scored four points, grabbed four rebounds, had three steals, two blocks, one assist, and a steal. Albers had three points, four assists, three rebounds, one steal, and a block while Regan Kemp scored two points and had one steal.

"It was a great team win. Everyone who played scored and helped contribute to the win. We still have much to work on, but we keep taking it one day at a time trying to get a little better each day." Coach Mumau Concluded.

With the win, Corry improves to .500 on the year at 2-2. They find themselves right back in the Beaver Dam tonight though against the juggernaut known as the Cathedral Prep Ramblers. JV Tips off at 6:00 PM with varsity action to follow. The game will be broadcasted live in 1080p HD at www.deejexperience.com

Corry:  14-6-12-4----- 36

North East:  12-9 - 6-4----- 31

The JV Lady Beavers got off to a slow start.  Ashley Hartner was getting lots of easy looks at the basket scoring 10 of North East's 14 first quarter points.  Corry managed only six.  Corry picked up the tempo in the second, tying the quarter 8-8, but found themselves down by 8.  The third quarter was a different story.  Corry did a better job with the Pickers full court press and was able to go on a run, at one point getting it to within a basket.

Regan Kemp had six of Corry's 10 third quarter points.  The fourth quarter was back and forth until about the last minute when North East was able to  drain a three and pull ahead to win by eight. Corry was led by Regan Kemp with a double double, 10 points, 10 rebounds, Maggie Young with six points, five rebounds, and three steals, Emry Passinger with six points, Madi Lefosky with four points and five rebounds, Lauren Fox with four points, nine rebounds, and two steals, Lily Light added four rebounds, two from Molly Irwin, and a steal each from Kaylee Barber, and Morgan Vanderschaaff.

"I am happy with how we adjusted after halftime.  We did a better job taking care of the ball, and breaking the press.  We got ourselves back into the game.  We still need to overcome the slow starts, and that begins with our defense and not giving up the easy layups." JV Coach Karalee Kemp said.
