Eire, PA - Corry JV continues to win, beating a tall and  athletic Iroquois team in two straight sets on Tuesday night improving to a 5-0 record. The Beavers swept the Braves by scores of 25-27 and 25-23.

In the first set, Corry got out to a quick 11-2 lead on hard serves from libero Jordyn Watrous and setter Maci Kemp. Hard serves kept Iroquois out of system, giving Corry a lot of of free-ball offensive opportunities.  This allowed the Corry offense to dominate and keep their servers at the line. Corry passing troubles, late in the set, allowed Iroquois back into the set, but Corry still won convincingly.

In the second set was more of the same, except unforced Corry serving errors and hitting errors kept the score fairly tight until Corry pulled away for the win in the end.

"This was another win that was not pretty because of errors. The unforced errors were the result of not being fully engaged and mentally focused." JV coach Mark Brenner said. "We will work on sharpening things in practice and be ready for the next opponent, Cathedral Prep."

Notable play included serving runs by Watrous, and Kemp and some really nice connections resulting in kills between our setters and middle hitters, Liv Swan and Morgan VanderSchaaff. These connections were from accurate free-ball passes from our defensive specialist crew. Also, defensive specialist Layla Bayer did a nice job passing in serve-receive.

Corry serving leaders were Watrous (10 service points, three aces), Kemp (five service points, one ace), and setter Naomi Brown (five service points, one ace) .  Hitting leaders were VanderSchaaff (four kills), Swan (four kills), outside hitter Lauren Brundage (four kills), and Ava West (three kills).  Defensively, libero Mikayla Comitz led with four digs.  Brown had eight assists and Kemp had 9.

Corry is now 5-0 on the season and head to Cathedral Prep on Thursday to take on the Ramblers. The JV opening serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM with varsity action to follow. If you can't make it to the match it will be live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
