Corry JV ended their season (13W-1L), with an exciting third set win in extra points over the Saegertown Panthers 25-7, 23-25, and 17-15. Saegertown was scrappy, served hard, and played pretty good defense. Both teams struggled at times with being too predictable on offense and keeping their hits in play. Ultimately Corry had a slight edge in those categories and won a close match.

In the first set, everything was clicking for Corry. Corry hitters outscored Saegertown 12 kills to two. Saegertown had seven hitting errors and struggled to pass the ball in serve-receive. Corry defensive specialist, Layla Bayer had two digs and middle hitter Katie Downey had three kills on four attempts plus a block, keeping Corry in the driver's seat. It was a quick and easy set.

In the second set the script was flipped, it was Corry with seven hitting errors and trouble passing. Saegertown started generating some in-system offense by digging up Corry hitters and converting those digs into kills. The result was a close set won by Saegertown.

The third set played out like a combination of the first two sets. The first 10 points had Corry dominating, scoring, passing, and playing pretty error free. This led to a 9-3 Corry lead. Then the momentum shifted as Corry passers and hitters struggled to develop effective offense. Saegertown came back to tie the score at 11 and then took the lead 12-11. Corry scored three more to make it 14-12, then Saegertown scored three to take back the lead 15-14. The set ended with a Corry side out and two timely aces by Corry outside hitter, Naomi Brown. Match Corry!

"This was a fun team to coach because they exhibited a combination of some very good traits, which resulted in a very successful season by any metric." JV coach Mark Brenner said. "They showed a tremendous amount of growth and skill development over the season. They also showed resilience, perseverance, and the humility to receive weeks of constant instruction from the coaches. The coaching staff appreciates their effort and dedication."

"The birthday girl", Liv Swan, had a season best 11 kills on 19 attempts and also served up four aces. Four of those kills and one of those aces were in the third set. Brown served two clutch aces with the match on the line to give Corry the win. OH Ava West also had five of her seven match kills in the critical third set.

Corry servers made 61 of 64 serves with nine aces! Serving leaders were Jordyn Watrous (11 service points, 1 ace), Maci Kemp (11 service points, 2 aces), Swan (7 service points, 4 aces), Mikayla Comitz (6 service points), and Brown (5 service points, 2 aces). Corry hitters were led by Swan (11 kills), West (7 kills), Watrous (5 kills), Morgan VanderSchaaff (3 kills), Downey (3 kills), and Brown (3 kills). Defensively, Comitz had 16 digs, Watrous 7 digs, Downey, Kemp, and DS Delaney Church had 6 digs each, and Brown had 5 digs. Kemp had a season high 32 assists!

The JV Beavers end their successful season with a record of 13-1. Their only blemish came at the hands of the Fairview Tigers. They now look forward to supporting our varsity team as they begin a playoff run next week!
