Corry Lady Beavers Roll Past Iroquois 10-0 Behind Strong Pitching, Power Hitting

CORRY, Pa. — The Corry Lady Beavers used a big early offensive surge and a dominant pitching performance to defeat Iroquois 10-0 on April 2 in Corry.

The Lady Beavers took control early, scoring multiple runs in the first few innings and never looking back.


Corry’s lineup produced extra-base hits and aggressive baserunning, building a comfortable lead by the middle innings. Corry finished with 10 runs on 11 hits while holding Iroquois to just one hit in the game.


Corry’s offense was highlighted by back-to-back Jacks from Mahra Goodwill and Ayvah Taylor in the second inning. Sydney Mineo added a triple, while Rachel Moats contributed a double as Corry’s offense recorded 11 total hits in the game.

In the circle, Braylyn Gerdy earned the win with a dominant performance. She pitched five innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out eight and walking none. Gerdy controlled the game from the start, keeping Iroquois hitters off balance throughout the contest.


Iroquois pitcher Riann Donoghue pitched four innings, allowing 11 hits and 10 runs, five of which were earned, while striking out two and walking one. The lady Braves managed their only hit of the game off the bat of Kylie Miller but was unable to generate any scoring opportunities against Corry’s pitching and defense.


“Tonight was what we needed after a tough loss to Northwestern.” Head coach Allison Williams said. “We got our momentum back, and the girls were relaxed and focused. We were solid defensively and our pitchers took control in the circle.”

 

With the shutout victory over Iroquois, the lady Beavers move to 3-1 on the year and will host the lady Bears of Union City on Monday.

The junior varsity team also took care of business on Thursday night as well scoring early and often Corry defeated Iroquois 15–0 shortened by the mercy rule.Corry took control in the first inning and continued to build its lead throughout the game, finishing with 15 runs on 13 hits while holding Iroquois to just one hit.


Emma Baker led the Lady Beavers offensively with multiple extra-base hits, including two triples, a double, a single and drove in two runs during Corry’s early scoring surge. Charle Gantz added two triples, Lucy Hasbrouck had a couple singles. Shawntel Dyne and Paige Stove each had a double, Morgan Vandershaaff, Maci Kemp, Chesney Hodak also contributed with hits, while as Corry’s lineup produced runs in each of the first four innings.


Kemp earned the win in the circle for Corry, pitching four innings, allowing just one hit in a shutout performance. The southpaw was dominant striking out eight and walking just one batter. Iroquois pitcher Madelyn Frick would take the loss, giving up five runs on four hits, two of the runs were earned. She struck out four batters and walked two. Karina Reichard entered in relief for an inning and two thirds. She would give up 10 runs on nine hits, all of them earned. Reichard had one strikeout and gave up two walks.


Iroquois’ lone hit came from Bella Foley, while Frick also reached base during the game. Defensively, Corry limited Iroquois scoring opportunities and recorded multiple strikeouts to keep the visitors off the scoreboard.


Corry improves its junior varsity record to 3-1 and will look to host the Union City Bears on Monday. Varsity Opening Pitch is Scheduled for 4:00 PM with JV action to follow. Both games will be broadcast live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www,deejexperience.com
