Corry Parade coverage from DeeJ Experience Productions
By Scott Lockwood
It was almost a perfect night at Sheen Field. The tailgate party was cooking, The Friday night lights were bright, and the Stands were packed full of Beaver Nation. It was 73 degrees with a light breeze, and the Homecoming court was ready to crown their King and Queen. The only problem was that General McLane was there to ruin the party and the Lancers did just that with a 33-19 win over the Beavers.
It wasn’t all bad though, in fact, the Beavers gave the Lancers quite a fight in the first half of the action. It started with a Keaton Frisina interception with just over nine minutes to go in the first quarter on a Lancer third and long. The Beavers could not capitalize though and had to punt on fourth and three. Carey dropped back out of the shotgun a drilled a put all the way to the ten-yard line. A couple of Lancer penalties and a short punt set up the Beavers on the 23-yard line. The Beavers would eventually punch it in on a two-yard touchdown run by Mason Savitz. A blocked PAT kept the Beaver lead at 6-0.
In the Second quarter, it was General McLane who flipped the script on the Beavers. The Lancers, running a hurry up style offence had quick hitters to their tight end Jared Corwin and a couple chunk plays had them knocking on the door. Corry would Stuff the lancers on two straight plays, but General McLane finally punched it in on a one-yard run from Corwin. The PAT from McCall Eichner was good and the Lancers took a one-point lead 7-6.
Corry answered right back with a nice drive culminating in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Carey to Frisina. Zach Turben would hit the PAT and the Beavers were back on top 13-7. But the quick strike play on the Lancers reared its ugly head. After a first down the Lancer’s Isaac Zietz threw a 13-yard pass to Corwin who then would throw a stiff arm and scamper to the house for a 59-yard touchdown. The PAT was short, and the game was tied 13-13 with just over two minutes in the first half.
General McLane forced a Beaver punt and had a little over a minute to work with before the half. In their hurry up offence, the Lancers worked their way down to the goal line where Teige Berger would score the Lancers third touchdown of the second quarter, this one from a yard out. The PAT from Eichner was good and the Lancers lead 20-13 at the half.
Halftime brought forth the homecoming court. In all their splendor the candidates strolled down the 50-yard line and awaited the announcement of the winners. Finally, the announcement came.
Congratulations to the 2024 homecoming king and queen Porter Kafferlin and Angelica Cressley!
After the homecoming festivities it was back to work and after both teams would make the other punt, disaster struck. As the Lancers punted, Corry could not handle the kick, and it ended up in the hands of the Lancers and a turnover for the Beavers. The Lancers would strike one play later as Isaac Zeitz hit Jacob Zeitz for a 15-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was good and General McLane extended their lead to 27-13.
Corry would work down the field on clutch plays from Nick Lesher and Savitz. As the third quarter came to and end, Corry would hit pay dirt to start the fourth quarter of play. On third and eight, Carey threw a strike to a leaping Blake Cook in the back of the endzone for a touchdown! The two-point conversion failed but Corry made it a one score game 27-19 in favor of General McLane.

With 4:30 left in the game, the Lancers put the game out of reach on a tight end screen to Corwin who broke a tackle and took it in for the touchdown. The PAT was no good, but the damage was done as the Lancers extended the lead to 33-19 which would be the final score.
Carey went 16 of 33 for 134 yards and two TD’s. He also had an interception. Zeitz was 14 of 23 for 228 with three TD’s and had an interception. Savitz was the leading rush for the Beavers. He had 23 yards on six carries and a touchdown. Berger led the Lancers with 42 yards on 13 attempts with a TD. Will Allen had five receptions for 44 yards, Frisina hauled in three for 38 and a TD and Blake Cook also hauled in five passes for 23 yards and a TD.
