ERIE, Pa. - The Corry Beavers Softball team traveled to Erie on Tuesday evening for a region four matchup against the lady Ramblers of Cathedral Prep. It was a cool and windy day with gusts reaching 23 miles per hour, but even the strong winds could not cool off the red-hot bats of the Beavers. After a slow start Corry erupted for nine runs in the fourth inning and finished the game with the 10-run rule in effect sealing a 10-0 shutout victory over Cathedral Prep in the fifth inning.
Corry (10 runs on 13 hits) started out slowly. The first three innings saw the game scoreless, and then the explosion happened in the top of the fourth. The visitors went to work stringing together timely hits and capitalizing on steady offensive pressure throughout the two innings of play.
Mahra Goodwill led the offensive surge, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Sydney Mineo added a key sit-down triple and scored a run. Ayvah Taylor, Alison Yetzer, and Braylyn Gerdy each had two hits on the day while Jazlyn Bridgham, Regan Kemp, and Molly Irwin each collect a hit apiece helping spark the offense.
After a slow start, Corry broke the game open with a nine-run fourth inning, turning a tight contest into a route of the young Ramblers. The Beavers added the last run in the fifth inning to complete the ten run mercy rule shutout.
In the circle, Braylyn Gerdy delivered a commanding performance, allowing just two hits over 5 innings while striking out two and walking two in her shutout performance. Cathedral Prep struggled to mount any consistent offense and was held scoreless throughout by solid pitching and really good team defense.
Avery Pfister took the loss for Cathedral Prep, giving up 10 runs on 13 hits, five of them were earned. She had two strikeouts and gave up two walks and a homerun on the day across five innings.
Corry head coach Allison Williams praised her team’s overall effort following the win.
“This was an all-around great team win tonight.” Williams said. “A bit of a slow start but once we found our groove we were good to go.” Williams also highlighted Gerdy’s performance and the defense behind her. “Bray took control in the circle tonight. She faced 15 batters in five innings of work. Our defense had her back. The two hits she gave up were taken care of on the base paths.”
With momentum building, Williams emphasized the importance of maintaining the team’s approach moving forward. “I am very happy with tonight’s performance. We have found our groove and need to continue playing relaxed.”
With the win the Beavers move to 6-2 on the year and are 3-1 in region four play. Corry returns to action on Thursday night as they will host the Conneaut Eagles (CASH) at the Lou Hanna Athletic Complex. Opening pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM. The game will be broadcasted live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
