Girard, PA — Under warm, sunny skies at Girard High School, the Corry Lady Beavers softball delivered a comeback  performance, defeating Girard 15-7 in a game defined by aggressive hitting and monster sixth inning.

The game started off tight in the opening inning, Corry Scored in the top of the first on a pair of singles from Mahra Goodwill and Ayvah Taylor. Girard answered back in the bottom of the first with a single and a run scored from Olivia Bax to tie the game 1-1.

In the bottom of the third, Girard tacked on two runs on a pair of hits, two walks and an uncharacteristic Beaver error. The visitors would answer right back in the top of the fourth inning. Taylor, Allison Yetzer, and Regan Kemp belted three straight singles with Taylor and Yetzer each scoring. Corry held Girard in the bottom of the fourth and the game was tied 3-3.

The Yellow Jackets held the Beavers scoreless in the fifth while piling up four runs on walk, a Beaver error, a dropped third strike, a single, and a double. The spurt had Girard looking good heading into the sixth inning with a 7-3 lead.

Corry would have none of it. The sixth inning saw an explosion mixed with hot bats and some errors that propelled a monstrous inning lead by Yetzer’s three RBI triple. Four hits and a handful of errors put nine runs on the board for the Beavers to take a 12-7 lead.

After holding the home team scoreless in the sixth, Corry added three more runs with singles from Goodwill and Yetzer and a double from Kemp making it a 15-7 final after a three up three down by Girard in the bottom of the seventh.

Leading the charge for Corry was a balanced lineup that saw contributions from multiple players. Yetzer was 3-5 at the plate with five RBI and three runs scored. Kemp also went 3-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Goodwill was 2-3 with three runs scored. Taylor, Sydney Mineo, Rachel Moats, and Braylyn Gerd also added key hits. The team totaled 13 hits, showcasing depth and discipline at the plate.

In the Circle, Braylyn Gerdy delivered a complete game performance, pitching 7 innings and picking up the win. She allowed seven runs on five hits, only two of them were earned. The hurler rung up three batters and walk two on the night. Gerdy kept Girard hitters off balance, limiting big innings and maintaining control despite scattered hits.

Catie Bennet gets tagged with the loss in six and a third innings worth of work. She gave up 10 runs on 10 hits, five of them were earned. The starting pitcher struck out four batters and walked three. Elizabeth Edmiston in relief, pitched two thirds an inning. She gave up five runs on three hits, two of them were earned. She had one strikeout and no walks.

Overall, the lady Beavers scored 15 runs on 13 hits. Corry head coach Allison Williams was pleased with the effort and the will to grit one out. "After a bit of a slower start than we would like, the girls dug deep and found it within themselves to get the job done. It was fun to see the energy they brought. We need to keep that energy and momentum going into our next game against Northwestern. I am proud of their grit and determination they showed tonight.”

With the win the Beavers improve to 9-2 overall and are 6-1 in region four play. They are behind the region leading Northwestern Wildcats who defeated Corry back on March 31st on their home field. Corry will look to even things up on their homefield in a critical game for both teams.
