CORRY, PA — The Corry Lady Beavers delivered another dominant performance Friday night. After settling down the Beavers rolled past Conneaut 17-7 in a high-scoring matchup fueled by timely hitting and a balanced team effort.

Corry piled up 11 hits and took control early, plating five runs in the second inning and continuing to apply pressure throughout the game. The offensive surge was backed by aggressive baserunning and consistent contact at the plate, helping the Lady Beavers build a lead they would not relinquish.

Conneaut put up a fight early taking a 2-0 in the top of the first. Mahra Goodwill would answer back with a solo shot over the Left field fence marking her seventh homerun of the year. The Eagles added another run in the top of the second inning making it 3-1.

The bottom of the second inning is when the Beaver bats started to click. Two singles, and a double from Molly Irwin, led the five-run inning. Conneaut answered back in the top of the third with a solo homerun from Riley Miller, her second of the year.

Conneaut made things interesting in the top of the fourth inning as they closed it to a one run game with the Beavers leading 8-7. Then the home team got hot. With a runner on first it was Goodwill again who deposited a ball over the left field fence for her eighth homerun of the year. A triple from Ayvah Taylor, a single from Regan Kemp, and a double from Irwin propelled a six-run inning to give Corry a 14-7 lead.

Maci Kemp came in to the circle in relief of Braylyn Gerdy and shut down the Conneaut bats in the top of the fifth. The Beavers got base runners on a hit batter and two walks in the bottom of the fifth. That’s when Rachel Moats delivered a two RBI double to seal the game for the Beavers 17-7 with the 10-run mercy rule in effect.

Multiple players contributed to the scoring effort, highlighting Corry’s depth in the batting lineup. The team capitalized on opportunities with runners on base and took advantage of defensive miscues to extend innings.

In the circle, Braylyn Gerdy would get the win. In four innings she gave up seven runs on nine hits, all of them earned. The Corry hurler had two strikeouts and gave up four walks and a homerun. Maci Kemp in relief pitched one inning. She didn’t give up any hits or runs and had one strikeout and no walks.

Ella Fuller took the loss for Conneaut. In three and a third innings, she gave up 13 runs on nine hits, 10 of them were earned. She had no strikeouts and gave up three walks and two home runs. Taylor Klemm in relief pitch one and a third innings. She gave up four runs on two hits, three of them were earned. She had one strikeout  and gave up two walks.

Head coach Allison Williams praised the team’s overall performance following the victory.

“Another all around great team win,” Williams said. “The girls are putting in the work and it is showing.”

With the win, the Lady Beavers continue to build momentum as they head deeper into the season. They now sit at 7-2 on the season and 4-1 in region four action at the half way point of the season. Corry is showcasing both offensive firepower and a growing confidence across the roster. It's a great time for Corry to be hitting their stride as they arrive at the mid point of the season.

The Junior varsity team also took care of business. This game was on the opposite end of the scoring spectrum as the Beavers defeated the Eagles 4-0.

Corry tallied 10 hits on the day. Emma Baker, Shawntel Dyne, and Lucy Hasbrouck each had a pair of hits. Hasbrouck recorded an in the park home run. Maci Kemp, Lilly Kent, Lilly Brook, and Ayvah Taylor Each recorded a hit as well.

The main story from the game though revolved around the two-hit shutout from Kemp. In seven innings Kemp dominated the circle with 16 strikeouts on the day out of the 24 at bats for the Eagles. It was a masterful gem for Kemp who didn’t need much help from the defense, but on the rare occasion she did need them, they were there.

The next test will be on Tuesday as Corry will welcome the Fairview Tigers for another region matchup. The varsity opening pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM with the JV game to follow. The games will be broadcast live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
