Corry Varsity Beavers Go Down On Final Play Against Union City

Corry Baseball traveled to Union City for a non-region baseball game on Thursday Night. The Beavers were looking to turn things around from at tough loss at Maplewood on Monday, but unfortunately the fell to Bears 3-2 on the final play of the game.
The game was tied at two in the bottom of the eighth inning when Cooper Fox singled, scoring one run. Both teams were strong on the mound. Union City pitchers struck out six, while Corry sat down nine.
Corry got on the board in the top of the eighth inning after Carson Braswell singled to left field, and Union City committed an error, each scoring one run. Union City took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning after Higley walked, Kinney walked, and Fox singled to left field, each scoring one run.
Zahner earned the win for Union City. The hurler gave up one hit and two runs (one earned) over one inning, striking out none and walking two. Tucker Jackson took the loss for the Beavers. The pitcher went two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out one and walking three. Kamdyn Moon led things off on the bump for Corry Varsity Beavers. The starter surrendered eight hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. Racop started the game for Union City. The hurler allowed three hits and zero runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking four.
Braswell went 1-for-4 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Jeremiah Johnson, Hunter Donoghue, Braswell, and Wyatt Swan each collected one hit for Corry. the Beavers showed patience at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Jackson and Moon led the team with two free passes each. Corry turned one double play in the game. Corry and were sure-handed as they didn't commit a single error. Jackson Lathrop made the most plays with nine.
Union City accumulated 11 hits in the game. Kinney led Union City with three hits in three at bats from the leadoff position. Turner and Hellyer each collected multiple hits for Union City. Union City stole four bases in the game. Union City turned two double plays in the game.
"I am so proud of this team tonight." Head coach Jake Cirigliano said. "We turned the page from yesterday and played a very good baseball game. Our at bats were better, our contact was better, our pitching was solid, we just came out on the wrong side of the score. I am very proud of the way we fought tonight."
With the loss, Corry falls to 3-3 on the year. They are back in action Saturday morning as they will travel to General McLane to take on the Lancer.
