Corry Volleyball kicked off the first week of double sessions with daily practices, workouts and volunteering for this year’s chosen charity night beneficiary Avery’s Pawsitive Change Pet Food Pantry.
The team chooses one charity to honor each year during a designated charity night home match with raffles, 50/50s and other donation opportunities. New for this year, the team decided they wanted to do more.
“Avery is amazing; she started this charity as a middle-schooler while undergoing cancer treatments,” said Brynley Watrous, one of three Corry seniors this season along with Ava Hallberg and Sydney Mineo. “When we learned that she was once again battling cancer in advanced stages, we knew we wanted to honor her charity with our annual event and by volunteering as well.”
The senior players are in charge of choosing the charity each year. When they proposed volunteering at 8:30 am Friday after four straight days of practice, and ahead of another day of practice, every single player raised a hand to commit.
“Normally, charity night is a way for our seniors to practice event planning, managing time and thinking through marketing,” said head coach Kelly Goodsel. “When the team expanded their efforts beyond just charity night to wanting to actually go and work with Avery’s Pawsitive Change distribution center after a long week of two-a-day practices, it really showed where their hearts and minds are. They are really great people, making the coaching staff and school proud.”

The entire team showed up to work at the pet food distribution.
“We have seen a lot of Avery’s hard work shared online, all the different activities she does, it was really special to be a part of the action today,” said Mineo.
With so much help, the regular volunteers put the volleyball players right to work behind the scenes packaging over 3,000 pounds of food for future distributions.
“We were amazed how the team came together to help Avery and her charity,” said Kim Chauncey, Avery’s mom and charity president. “It was something I have never seen before; with their help, we got so much done so quickly.”

The team encourages the community to rally behind Avery and to come out to support charity night on October 7 at Corry’s East Gym, 534, E. Pleasant Street.
In addition, donations made by check to Avery’s Pawsitive Change Pet Food Panty can be mailed to Corry Community Foundation ℅ Corry Volleyball, 29 W. South St. Corry, PA 16407.
Avery Chauncey established Avery’s Pawsitive Change Pet Food Pantry while undergoing cancer treatments in 2020. Now a 2025 graduate of Corry Area High School, Avery is again battling cancer in advanced stages but she remains positive and dedicated to her charity which feeds 1,200 pets each month.
