CORRY, Pa.(DeeJ Experience) – The Corry Lady Beavers defeated Meadville 12-2 on March 24 in a cold-weather matchup highlighted by timely hitting and a strong pitching performance. Corry finished with 12 runs on 13 hits, while Meadville scored two runs on eight hits, according to the official game scorecard.
Corry took control early, scoring multiple runs in the opening innings and maintaining pressure throughout the game. The Lady Beavers’ offense produced consistent hits throughout the lineup, including extra-base hits and a home run that helped extend the lead.
Meadville managed eight hits but struggled to convert opportunities into runs. The team scored its two runs in the top of the first inning but was unable to keep pace with Corry’s offense.
Braylyn Gerdy pitched a complete game for Corry, throwing six innings while allowing eight hits and two earned runs. She recorded three strikeouts and issued one walk. Meadville pitcher Kightlinger threw 5⅓ innings, allowing 13 hits and 12 runs, 11 of them earned.
It was Mahra Goodwill who capped off the game with excitement as she punched one into oblivion over the right field fence for a walk off homerun. That shot initiated the ten run mercy rule that ended the game an inning early.
Corry head coach Allison Williams praised her team’s effort and attitude early in the season. “I couldn’t be more proud of the entire team tonight,” Williams said. “It has been a rocky start to the season with the weather. Whether we are stuck inside, running outside to get a defense in while the rain holds off, or getting a full practice in outside the girls are putting the work in and getting better every day.” Williams said the team’s attitude has stood out as the season begins. “The positive energy these girls bring to the field is fun to watch,” she said. “I’m excited to see where this season takes us. You can’t beat two walk off homeruns to start the season either.”
The game was played in cold conditions in Corry, and there was only one umpire for the first inning and a half, according to game notes. Corry used steady hitting and pitching to secure the 12-2 victory. With the win, the Beavers start off with a 1-0 record and will look to host Girard as the team continues its early-season schedule.

The lady Beavers junior varsity softball team also opened the season with a dominant performance Tuesday night, defeating Meadville 16–0 in a game shortened by the 15-run mercy rule.
Corry took control early and never allowed Meadville to gain momentum. The Lady Beavers combined timely hitting, aggressive base running and solid defense to secure the shutout victory.
Meadville was held to just one hit in the game and was unable to score. Corry’s offense was led by several strong performances throughout the lineup. Multiple players recorded hits and RBIs as the team steadily built its lead through the early innings. The Lady Beavers finished the game with 16 runs on nine hits, capitalizing on walks and defensive miscues to extend innings and add runs.
Shawntel Dyne highlighted the offensive effort with a walk off home run and multiple runs batted in, while Emma Baker and Lily Kent contributed key hits to keep rallies going. Charle Gantz added extra-base hits, including a triple and a double, helping Corry pull away.
Corry’s pitching and defense combined for the shutout, limiting Meadville to minimal base runners. Maci Kemp was stellar in the circle recording 11 strikeouts. The defensive unit backed up the pitching effort with solid fielding plays throughout the game to prevent any scoring opportunities. The win gives Corry a strong start to the season as the Lady Beavers look to build momentum.
Corry will host the Lady Lancers at home in a Scrimmage Wednesday night that was rescheduled from Monday’s bad weather conditions. Corry’s next regular season game will be on Thursday where they will host the Girard Yellow Jackets. Varsity opening pitch is scheduled for 4pm with JV action to follow. Thursday night's Games will be broadcast live by DeeJ Experience Productions at www.deejexperience.com as well as YouTube and other streaming platforms.
