CORRY, PA - Corry softball hosted the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday in a wet and dreary region four showdown. The Wildcats used a balanced offensive attack and a dominant outing in the circle from Zoey Johnson to secure an 8-2 victory over the Beavers.

It was your classic stalemate in a big game in the first inning. Both teams were testing the waters before Corry struck first in the bottom of the second inning. A solo shot from the red hot Allison Yetzer sailed over the left center fence giving the Beavers a 1-0 Lead. Northwestern answered back in the top of the third and the game was tide 1-1.

Northwestern broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning, turning a tight contest into a comfortable lead. The Wildcats scored two more runs in the fifth inning before Corry answered back with a run of their own to make it 8-2 and the final score of the game.

The visitors collected 11 hits overall, with contributions throughout the lineup. Avery Feldmann led the way offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Kitcey added two hits and drove in a pair. Neveah Kelly also had a multi-hit performance with two hits and two RBIs, helping fuel the Wildcats’ middle-inning surge.

Corry was paced by Allison Yetzer, who finished with two hits a run and an RBI. Mahra Goodwill, Sydney Mineo each had a hit. Jazlyn Bridgham added a hit with an RBI. The Beavers struggled to generate consistent offense as they could not figure out the Zoey Johnson puzzle.

Corry starter Braylyn Gerdy took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs (four earned) over 3 and a third innings. She walked three and had zero strikeouts on the day. Maci Kemp provided relief. In three and two thirds innings Kemp gave up three runs on six hits, two of them earned. She fanned one batter and had zero walks.

Johnson went the distance for the Wildcats. The hurler allowed just five hits and two runs, both earned including one homerun.  Johnson sat down 11batters and walked two batters to earn the win. She limited Corry’s chances throughout, stranding runners and working out of trouble when needed.

“Even though we didn’t come out with a win today we played a much better game against them than we did the first time.” Corry head coach Allison Williams said. “We need to limit our strikeouts in games like these by settling in the box and seeing the ball. We tend to lose our patience when we face pitchers with speed and movement.”

Williams comment on the future heading towards the back end of the season. “I know the girls will take a little time to think about this game but then move on from it and come ready to finish out the regular season strong.”

The loss puts Northwestern firmly in the driver seat of region four in district ten. Corry falls 9-3 overall and are 6-2 in region play, both losses coming at the hands of the Wildcats. Corry will have a couple days off before their next game. It will be another region game at home as they host the North East Grape Pickers. Varsity opening pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM with JV action to follow. The game will be broadcast live on the DeeJ Experience Sports Stream. www.deejexperience.com
