Corry traveled to Northwestern Friday and Saturday for the annual Northwestern Tip-off Tournament. Corry had the first Varsity game against Conneaut. Corry started out strong behind senior Halle Alber's hot hand. Albers drained three 3s while Rylee Nickerson and Grace Allen had 2 pts each to put Corry up 13-7 at the end of quarter 1.

Albers continued her sharp shooting by scoring 5 pts in the second quarter while Haley Mumau and Regan Kemp netted two points apiece. Corry headed into halftime with a 22-14 lead.

Corry's offense cooled in the second half with Mumau and Nickerson scoring four points each and Kaygen Rogers netting two points. It proved to be enough, though with Corry winning its first game of the season, 32-26.

“I was pleased with how we played, especially considering we haven't practiced since Monday. Our team defense was strong. Though we have a lot of areas we can improve on, it was a nice start to our season.” Said head coach Ryan Mumau.

Albers finished with a team high of 14 points followed by Mumau and Nickerson with six points each. Allen, Rogers, and Kemp had two points each. Mumau led us on the boards with nine rebounds followed closely behind by Sadye Dyne and Nickerson with eight boards each.  Allen finished with seven rebounds and Rogers with four rebounds. Mumau dished out four assists while Albers, Dyne, and Nickerson had two assists each. Allen finished with three steals, Nickerson had two steals, and Albers, Dyne, and Mumau had one steal each.

With the win, Corry would return to Northwestern to face an extremely talented Wildcat team lead by Junior standout Makayla Presser-Palmer in the championship game of the tip-off tournament. Northwestern jumped out to an early 14-3 lead after quarter one. Corry fought back in the second quarter to cut the deficit to nine and heading into halftime down 23-14. Corry continued battling in the second half but ended up losing 40-24. The MVP of the tournament, Presser-Palmer of Northwestern, scored a game-high 25 pts.

“This was a good learning experience for us. Makayla is the real deal and a future Division One athlete. I know Allen and Nickerson had the challenging task of guarding her. Both did well in slowing her down and in the process gained valuable experience.” Coach Mumau Said

Leading the way for Corry was Haley Mumau with seven points and one assist followed by Rylee Nickerson with six points. Sadye Dyne finished with four points, Halle Albers with three points and one assist, Grace Allen with two points and two assists, Madi Leofsky with two points, and Kaygen Rogers and Regan Kemp with one assist each. Nickerson led the team in rebounds with nine followed by Dyne with eight. Allen, Mumau, and Kemp had two rebounds each while Albers, Rogers, and Reagan Porter had one rebound each.
